New years eve celebration

I hope everyone is gearing up for a fun New Year's Eve!

My family is more of a stay-in kinda family rather than hitting the town.  We plan on ordering take out and then making some yummy homemade carmel popcorn in the evening.   We may even get crazy and go and see a movie in the early afternoon .... TALK about CRAZY! :)

Be sure to stop by the Little Scraps of Heaven Design team blog to see all the fabulous project my fellow teammates have shared for you on this fabulous Monday.  We'd love to see any wonderful creations that you have made this week to kick off the New Year.  Be sure to share them on the Little Scraps of Heaven Facebook Fanpage.  Also, be on the lookout because next week the LSHD DT is kicking off our challenges again.  There will be layout sketch challenges, card sketchs and much more.  Remember that you can't win if you don't enter!  I hope to see all of your creations soon!

To close out 2012 I've created this fun little New Year's Celebration card.

I've used the following items to create this card:
1. Paper piecing patterns from Little Scraps of Heaven Designs - New Years Bears
2.  Twine from Trendy Twine - Orangesicle
3.  Clearsnap Colorbox Chalk inks
5. Solid Shimmer Cardstock from DCWV

Sketch Challenge at Little Scraps of Heaven Designs

Ok, I'll admit it ...
....
Are you listening?
...

I really love sketch challenges lately!   I really do!!
How do you feel about sketches?

It really gets me going if I'm in a rut ... if I'm in a rush .. or even if I'm overwhelmed with too many ideas in my head (which happens often).  I love how you can take someones sketch and make it your own.  That no matter what ... two people are always going to interpret the sketch differently and come out with layouts that are dramatically different!  Neat!!!

This week there is a new sketch challenge over at Little Scraps of Heaven's Design team blog.  I hope that you'll consider hopping over there and playing along with us.  There's always a chance for some fabulous files from Little Scraps of Heaven Designs ... who doesn't like a bit of cuteness with their layouts?

Here is my take on the sketch:

This is a layout that I made for a fan of my facebook page, Lisa Pontious at HoneyBearz Designs.  Lisa won a layout of mine JUST for being a fan!   This is the second time I've given away a full page layout.   I've had positive feedback from the winners and think that this is something that I'd like to continue to do with my giveways!

If you have any interest in having me create you a personal one (or two) page layout ... send me an email and we can discuss pricing based upon you're level of details.  I'd love to capture some of your special memories!   I can be reached at any time at designsthatdelight@gmail.com.

For this layout I used the following items:
3. Patterned paper from "The Lodge" paper stack from DCWV
4. Solid papers by American Crafts
6.  Natural twine

Don't forget to join us at the LSHD DT blog to join in on the challenge!

How to create a card from a LSHD svg file

Good morning all,
Today I'd like to share with you a technique that I just LOVE to use these days.

The technique is how to use one of the Little Scraps of Heaven svg files in SCAL3 (Sure Cuts a lot v. 3) and make it a card.

In the past I have made the following with this technique:

In the below picture I used files from the "Spooky Eyes" collection.

For this everyday card I used the "Scalloped Shapes file"

I used the "Bassinet" file for this card

I used the rocket in the "To the Moon" pattern collection for this card

I used the "Crab" file for this card

As you can see .. once you master the technique the possibilites are really endless.

So .. here goes ...

For my tutorial I am going to make a birthday card out of the "Valentine Cupcake" pattern set.

For this tutorial you will need:
1- Any SVG file (preferably one from Little Scraps of Heaven Designs)
2 - Sure Cuts a lot software (I use version 3 but I am confident you can follow along with version 2)
3- Cutting machine that can cut svg files and is compatible with SCAL.  I use the Silhouette Cameo.

STEP1:  Open your svg file in SCAL

STEP 2: Resize and eliminate or duplicate any pieces that you want.  I've deleted the hearts as I will be making this into a Birthday card and do not need them.

STEP 3:  Move the pieces together to build your image.

STEP 4:  Copy the image to make an exact duplicate and place next to each other.

STEP 5:  Use the "Flip Image function to turn one of the images.  You will now have a set of mirror images.

STEP 6:  Move the images so that they now touch where you want your fold to be.

STEP 7:  Select all images shown on your screen and use the "weld" function to fuse them together.

STEP 8:  "Preview" your cutting file to ensure that the images that you have ready will be cut as you would like your card to look.

STEP 9:  Place your paper color of choice at the correct location on your mat and cut your newly created card.

STEP 10:
Feel free to cut any additional piecings that you want at this point to give that great layered look.
I've cut some additional frosting and a paper wrapper.

At this point, it's all up to your imagination ... add glitter, ribbon, gems, etc and make the creation your own!

I hope that you've found this tutorial helpful!
Have a great weekend!

Batty for Candy

Happy Sunday everyone.
I've been meaning to share a recent layout with all of you.  I've tried a new companies paper piecing patterns, and would love to hear what you think about how I chose to work with them.  The bat paper piecing's come from Designs on Cloud 9.  There are definitely a ton of cute patterns over here .. and at the very least head over to grab the free files.  They are published once a week, and I must say they are FANTASTIC!

Here is my layout:

All patterned paper is by Die Cuts with a view, and solid cardstock is by American crafts.

Thanks for stopping by today.
If you have any interest in purchasing this layout it is available HERE.

Thanks for looking!

The wheels on the bus

Good friday evening to all you bloggers and blog readers out there.
I hope you are kick starting your evening.

All is right with the world with me.  The hubby is home from a long traveling trip and we've been blessed with some amazing weather this weekend!  I can't wait to spend the days soaking up what seems to be the last of summer, even though it IS officially Fall.

This week I've decided to make a Back to School layout.  I've used the 'wheels on the bus' theme thinking it would be perfect for some first day Kindergartners.

I really did enjoy working on this project.  It came together pretty fast for me.  Sometimes they do, and some times they don't  :)

I've used patterns from Little Scraps of Heaven designs for this project that you can find HERE.

This layout is available for purchase now RIGHT HERE.

Have a FANTASTIC weekend everyone!

Here are my projects for the Splash of Summer hop:

The first project is a tag.  It showcases one of the monkeys from the Fun in the Sun Monkey Pattern kit from Little Scraps of Heaven
.  A cute little tag that can be added to a card, or a scrapbook page.

My second project is a set of paper piecings.
This set is PERFECT for celebrating that day outside in the hot sun.
For this set, I used paper piecings from the Pooltime Fun pattern set from Little Scraps of Heaven

My third project is a border that will fit a 12x12 scrapbook page.  It has a pull out tag with a cute dangling charm.  For this layout I used the "You are My Sunshine" pattern over at Little Scraps of Heaven Designs.

My last project is my BIG one.

I've been wanting to do a nautical themed layout for some time now and I was thinking about this hop I came to the realization that what goes better with sun than the sea and surf.  I chose to use the Under the Sea Collection from Little Scraps of Heaven to make this three dimensional page.  At this point I may do one of two things.  1 - Simply frame it in a 12x12 shadowbox frame and hang in my boys bathroom, or possibly turn it into a two page layout where the pictures are displayed on the right hand page.  Still not sure yet, but in either case I am REALLY happy with how this turned out and am inspired to do more nautical projects too!
